The Sectoral Caucus met on Thursday, Feb 1/2001 in Nanaimo, to select a service provider for the 2001 season.

A committee was struck that included all eight elected Caucus Reps. They were:

1. Tom Orr, North Island Prawn Association
2. Kelly Loxton, North Island Prawn Association
3. Brian Vandorp, Pro Quota Group
4. Kevin Erikson, Pro Quota Group
5. Dan Stephens, West Coast Prawn Association
6. Mike Cullen, West Coast Prawn Association
7. Guy Johnston, United Fishermen and Allied Workers Union
8. Bob Alford, Pacific Prawn Association

DFO gave assistance, guidance and support throughout the process and in that capacity Ivan Winther chaired the meeting.
We used the same method that DFO uses to evaluate proposals. The "Prawn Proposal Selection Process" will follow this posting.

The selection process ranked three proposals. The information provided in the proposals was extensive and the quality of the research was excellent. The three companies that made proposals were J.O. Thomas and Associates, Archipelago Marine Research Ltd. and Pacific Coast Fisheries Services Inc.

The final scores were:

   J.O.Thomas  59.5 points
  Archipelago   56.9 points
  P.C.F.S.   49.8 points

The unanimous decision of the Caucus was that the contract would be awarded to J.O.Thomas based on their bid having rated highest.

J.O. Thomas has been notified of their winning bid. They have replied that they are looking forward to the privilege of working with members of the Prawn Industry Caucus and all license holders to deliver the prawn industry a cost effective monitoring system of the highest caliber.

The Pacific Prawn Fishermen's Association has now begun the process of negotiating the implementation of the contract with J.O.Thomas.

We look forward to a very succesful partnership and fishery.

Thank You
Bob Alford - Chairman of the Selection Committee
