Trap Vessel Stability - Letter to the Prawn Industry
Submitted by Mututal Marine
15 Dec 2005

As you may know, our company and the industry at large is experiencing an increasing number of incidents of capsizings and/or sinkings of vessels laden with traps stacked on deck. It would appear there are stability issues involved in many of these accidents and the problem is becoming increasingly hazardous. We also understand that a newly designed, significantly heavier, type of prawn trap is now entering the prawn fishery - which may lead to even more stability issues and concerns.

A Committee of our Board of Directors would like to meet with representatives of the prawn and crab fishing industry to receive your input and explore a solution to vessel stability problems. We hope such a meeting could be held as early as possible in the New Year at our office. Would you please let me know: 1. When such a meeting might be suitable for you 2. How many representatives of your association might be able to attend 3. Are there any other organizations or individuals that you might suggest that I contact that would be beneficial to have attend

We would value input from the prawn and crab fishing industry in order to address our stability issues and concerns and I very much look forward to hearing from you.
